After a debilitating start to the season with 5 round losses, last Saturday night, our men’s team romped home a confident round 6 win with a 16-point lead over Logan Thunder 98 to 82.

Toowoomba Mountaineers Men’s coach Danny Breen says they struggled as a team to play consistently for the whole game but that wasn’t the case Saturday night.

“Best thing was we weathered the storm, we knew they’d come out in the third and rally and we stayed true to our game plan and held together.” Breen said.

“With our lack of experience, that truly is a positive step forward in our team, player and club development”

“They were bigger than us and yet we showed hustle and out rebounded them by 7 and ran in 32 fast break points, those two points were keys to the victory”

The women’s team lost to Thunder with an 8-point gap 81 to 73. A mixed result for a double header weekend, both teams losing Sunday’s games against Ipswich Force.

The teams are preparing for their clash against Gold Coast Rollers this Saturday night.

Toowoomba Mountaineers are set to see the return of Daniel Sims to the team after serving a 6 round BQ suspension. The missing link to the team, that will change the tide of the season for the Men’s team.

The 26-year-old former Adelaide 36ers development player returns to state league basketball after trying his hand at the 3×3 format, and men’s coach Danny Breen said he would relish the chance to be back at the QBL level.

“Daniel is going to be a great addition, he can flat-out ball.” Breen said.

This Saturday 8 June is set to be an exciting game against Gold Coast Rollers, at USQ Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre, 20 Baker St, Darling Heights. Women at 6pm, Men at 8pm
